Lewis Hamilton, now racing for Ferrari, hints at the end of his F1 career while affirming his commitment to the sport. The seven-time champion remains focused on maintaining his competitive edge despite aging.
Lewis Hamilton, the seasoned Ferrari driver, has recently opened up about the potential nearing of his Formula 1 career's end. At 41, Hamilton remains a prominent figure in F1, having debuted with McLaren back in 2007 and not missing a season since. With a record-setting 20 consecutive seasons, he's signed with Ferrari until at least 2027, with an option for 2028 if he chooses to continue battling on the track.
Hamilton is confident in Ferrari's future, expressing 'complete faith' in the team's ability to develop a more powerful engine for the 2027 season. However, he acknowledges the challenges that come with age, especially concerning reaction times. Despite these challenges, Hamilton insists he still competes at a high level, even matching the younger drivers' reactions.
"You've never had anyone like me in the 70 years of the F1 championship," Hamilton stated, underscoring his unique longevity in the sport. He remains dedicated to sacrificing everything to prolong his career, although he admits it's uncertain whether he will still be racing in the 2030s. "I don't want to overstay my welcome," he added, emphasizing his desire to remain competitive without compromising performance.
Hamilton has had a challenging tenure at Ferrari, with 2025 being a particularly tough season. Despite this, he's determined not to continue racing if his performance declines. He remains motivated by the prospect of racing in Africa, with F1 set to return to the continent in the early 2030s.
On the current grid, only Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin is older than Hamilton. Alonso, 45, has recently extended his contract through 2027, demonstrating that high performance is possible even in the mid-40s. However, Hamilton recognizes that every driver experiences aging differently and questions whether he will maintain the same desire to race as he grows older.
Ultimately, Hamilton's future in F1 will hinge on his ability to remain competitive and his passion for the sport. For now, though, the British driver is 'all in,' committed to proving that age is just a number as he continues to compete among the best.
