Lewis Hamilton's Playful Advice to Kimi Antonelli: 'Slow Down!'

As Kimi Antonelli edges closer to clinching the F1 title at the U.S. Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton jokingly suggests he should 'slow down'. Antonelli's impressive season has him poised to seal the championship with races to spare.

Lewis Hamilton had a bit of playful advice for Kimi Antonelli as the young driver stands on the brink of his first Formula 1 world championship: 'Slow down!' With the United States Grand Prix looming, Antonelli can secure the title if he extends his lead over the competition to 125 points. He currently holds a 102-point advantage over George Russell, with Hamilton trailing further behind.

Despite Mercedes being the pre-season favorite for both titles, it was Russell who was initially expected to lead the charge for the Drivers' title. However, Antonelli overtook his teammate in the standings following his victory at the Japanese Grand Prix, his second win of the year. With eight race wins to his name, Antonelli has built a commanding lead that could see him crowned champion with five races remaining.

When asked for advice for the Italian at this pivotal moment, Hamilton couldn't resist a joke. 'Slow down!' he quipped, before adding, 'He doesn’t need any advice. This year, and even last year, he’s shown his talent, ability, and calm approach. He’s done an amazing job, and I’m incredibly proud of how he’s conducted himself.'

Hamilton, who swapped Mercedes for Ferrari, was replaced by Antonelli, a move orchestrated by team principal Toto Wolff. The decision to promote Antonelli from the junior program, where he had been since 2019, was no surprise to Hamilton. 'I knew who would replace me,' he said, recalling Antonelli's presence around the team during his final year.

Hamilton praised Antonelli's seamless transition into the team, noting the young driver's enthusiasm and charm. 'It's challenging stepping into a seat like that with all the expectations, but Kimi has handled it superbly,' he remarked. 'His performances this year have been impressive, and he absolutely deserves the championship.'
