Liam Lawson's impressive results in Singapore have sparked speculation about his future at Racing Bulls for the 2027 season. With the team yet to finalize its lineup, Lawson remains focused on performing well each weekend.
Liam Lawson's future with Racing Bulls remains uncertain as the 2027 F1 season approaches, despite his strong performance at the Singapore Grand Prix. When asked if his recent success would secure his seat, Lawson wittily responded, "you tell me." This comes after Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane announced that the team's driver lineup would be decided in the coming weeks.
With most of next season's grid already set, Racing Bulls and Haas are the only teams yet to confirm their drivers. Racing Bulls faces a conundrum as they must choose between three promising drivers for two seats. Lawson and Arvid Lindblad have formed a formidable duo, helping the team to fifth in the Constructors' standings. Meanwhile, Nikola Tsolov, a rising star in Formula 2, is also in the mix for a potential seat.
Lawson's performance in Singapore, where he finished fifth in the Sprint and seventh in the Grand Prix, has certainly strengthened his case. Reflecting on his results, Lawson expressed pride in the team's efforts during the recent intense triple-header across Baku, Bahrain, and Malaysia, saying, "It’s been a pretty intense few weeks and as a team we have scored in all three races. Personally I probably should have scored in all three as well."
Currently leading the midfield pack with 75 points in the Drivers' Championship, Lawson's consistent scoring has not gone unnoticed. However, Permane emphasized that the team is not rushing their decision, stating, "We’ve got two fantastic drivers. We’ve got a fantastic driver in F2 at the moment, and they’re all there and ready to go. But three doesn’t fit into two, of course."
As Racing Bulls serves as a junior team to develop talent for Red Bull, the decision carries significant weight. When questioned if his standout weekend in Singapore would secure his 2027 seat, Lawson remained focused on the present, stating, "I think it’s obviously normal at this point of the year. But right now, I’m just focused on trying to score each weekend and try to keep extending."
