Liam Lawson is thrilled with Racing Bulls' performance over the recent F1 triple-header, as the team nears a decision on its 2027 driver line-up. With a strong showing in Singapore, Lawson eyes a continued role amidst competition from Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov.
Liam Lawson is evidently pleased with Racing Bulls' trajectory this season, particularly after the recent F1 triple-header. The New Zealander expressed his satisfaction after the team reached a milestone of 100 points, thanks in part to his impressive performance at the Singapore Grand Prix. As Racing Bulls approaches a crucial decision regarding its driver line-up for 2027, Lawson is feeling confident.
At the Singapore circuit, Racing Bulls edged closer to securing fifth place in the Constructors' standings. Lawson's efforts, which included a fifth-place finish in the Sprint and seventh in the main race, showcased his steady contribution alongside rookie teammate Arvid Lindblad. However, the team has yet to finalize whether both drivers will remain for the next season.
Adding to the mix is Nikola Tsolov, a promising Red Bull junior who is currently embroiled in a tight Formula 2 title race with Rafael Camara, who is on his way to Haas. Team principal Alan Permane mentioned that a decision about the 2027 line-up will be made "in the coming weeks."
Reflecting on the Singapore GP, Lawson shared his optimism about the season's progress. "I feel great, honestly," Lawson told PlanetF1.com and other media. "It’s been a good year overall. We've been solid throughout the year, and this triple-header has been about returning to form. We should have scored in all three races."
When asked if Racing Bulls had cemented its position as the leading midfield team after the Singapore performance, Lawson was cautiously optimistic. While Alpine failed to score any points during the triple-header, giving Racing Bulls a 32-point cushion, Lawson recalled their double podium in Brazil 2024 as a reminder not to become complacent.
"Not secure," Lawson commented on their current standings. "But I think we’re definitely in a better place. We’ve managed to extend our lead over the past few weekends. This weekend alone added 10 points for us, while Alpine didn't score. They’ve had a very fast car, so we’re very happy with the team's decisions lately. But we can't rest easy, especially with Alpine’s potential."
Despite the looming possibility of Tsolov joining Racing Bulls, Sky F1's Ted Kravitz dismissed the idea of replacing Lawson as "bonkers." While F2 CEO Bruno Michel believes Tsolov is ready for F1, the current strong performances from Lawson and Lindblad make the decision challenging.
As Racing Bulls weighs its options, Lawson remains a strong contender to keep his seat, reflecting the team's upward trajectory and his own solid form this season.
