Mercedes Debuts New Front Wing for Singapore GP

Mercedes, McLaren, and Red Bull are the only teams to bring new parts to the Singapore Grand Prix. Mercedes is introducing a new front wing for the W17, aiming to enhance performance.

F1 teams have been relatively quiet in terms of upgrades for the Singapore Grand Prix, with only Mercedes, McLaren, and Red Bull bringing new parts to Marina Bay. Mercedes, in particular, has introduced a new front wing for their W17. This change involves adjusting the chord distribution across three wing elements, shifting to a two-element Straight Mode. The front wing's endplate and footplate have also been modified to accommodate this update.

According to the FIA's submission, these changes are intended to improve performance across various conditions, including better front tyre wake control. Kimi Antonelli, the championship leader, is hopeful about the new components, stating, "That's the question we will try to answer. George is going back on the old package, which we know works really well on these kinds of tracks. On my side, we’ll try to find an answer for this package. Hopefully, we will understand it more and finally strike the potential of the package."

Red Bull has also brought two updates for the RB22, focusing on the front wing endplate and flap geometries. Their new design aims to offer more local load while maintaining flow stability. Additionally, the exit duct in the rear wheel bodywork has been altered to increase cooling flow, necessary for Singapore's demanding circuit.

McLaren has introduced a circuit-specific upgrade, tweaking the front brake duct to improve cooling. This is meant to address the high brake cooling demands of Singapore and other upcoming circuits.

As the teams roll out these new parts in Singapore, all eyes will be on how these changes translate into performance on track.
