Mercedes is on the brink of clinching the 2026 Constructors' Championship, needing just three more points than Ferrari at Interlagos. With Kimi Antonelli already securing the Drivers’ title, the focus now shifts to cementing the team's dominance.
Mercedes is poised to secure the Constructors' Championship at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, needing to outscore Ferrari by just three points to seal the deal. With Kimi Antonelli having already claimed the Drivers' title in Mexico City, Mercedes aims to return to its former glory by reclaiming both championships for the first time since their dominant streak ended in 2021.
Currently holding a 126-point lead, Mercedes only needs a 129-point advantage over Ferrari after Brazil to win the championship, possibly on countback given their superior number of race wins this season. If they fall short, the battle will continue to Qatar.
Mercedes' resurgence in 2026 was anticipated with the new regulations, and the team hit the ground running. Antonelli and George Russell's blistering start saw them capture seven of the first eight races. Even in races they didn't win, Mercedes drivers frequently found themselves on the podium, ensuring their lead over rivals like Ferrari.
Ferrari has been the closest challenger throughout the season, but Mercedes' early-season form placed them comfortably ahead. Meanwhile, Red Bull, led by Max Verstappen, managed a late-season surge past McLaren into third, but it was too little, too late to challenge Mercedes' dominance.
