Mike Elliott Joins Alpine as Chief Technical Officer
Alpine has announced the appointment of Mike Elliott as their new Chief Technical Officer. Elliott returns to F1, bringing extensive experience from his previous role at Mercedes.
Alpine has confirmed that Mike Elliott will step into the role of Chief Technical Officer, marking his comeback to Formula 1 after departing Mercedes at the close of the 2023 season. Elliott, who first dipped his toes into the F1 world with McLaren in 2000 as an aerodynamicist, is set to bring over two decades of expertise to his new position.
Elliott's storied career has seen him transition through various roles, including a stint at Renault starting in 2008, before his long tenure at Mercedes. At the Silver Arrows, he climbed the ranks to become Head of Aerodynamics, then Technology Director from 2017 to 2021, and finally Technical Director until 2023. He briefly swapped roles with James Allison in 2023 to become Chief Technical Officer before parting ways with Mercedes.
In a statement regarding his new position at Alpine, the team highlighted Elliott's impressive track record, noting his contribution to eight Constructors' and Drivers' Championships. Alpine is hopeful that Elliott's experience will bolster its technical capabilities as it aims to close the gap with the sport's top contenders.
Elliott will oversee the technical and engineering functions at Alpine's Enstone factory, where his influence is expected to build upon the team's recent improvements on track.
