Racing Bulls Contemplates 2027 F1 Line-up with Lawson in the Mix

The Racing Bulls team is on the brink of deciding their F1 2027 driver lineup, weighing options between Liam Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, and Nikola Tsolov. With Lawson's experience and Tsolov's rising star power, the decision promises to be a challenging one.

Liam Lawson is in the running for a seat on the 2027 Formula 1 grid, as Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane has indicated a decision on their driver line-up is imminent. The team, which serves as the Red Bull junior squad, faces the tough choice of selecting between Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, and Nikola Tsolov, knowing one will miss out on the coveted spot.

Currently, Lawson and F1 rookie Lindblad have formed a formidable duo, propelling Racing Bulls to fifth in the Constructors' standings, leading the midfield pack. However, Tsolov is making waves in Formula 2, having clinched six victories in his rookie year, adding another layer of intrigue to the decision-making process.

Permane, speaking at the Singapore Grand Prix, stated that the team is "not in a rush" to finalize their plans but aims to make an announcement in the coming weeks. "We’ve got two fantastic drivers and a fantastic driver in F2 at the moment," Permane remarked, highlighting the depth of talent they have to consider. Yet, as he succinctly put it, "three doesn’t fit into two."

Racing Bulls carries the responsibility of nurturing talent for future promotion to the senior Red Bull team. Lawson, who has already experienced the rollercoaster of Red Bull's promotion and demotion, recently reinforced his value by stepping in for an injured Isack Hadjar and securing respectable finishes in the Dutch and Spanish Grands Prix.

When asked about the criteria for their 2027 driver pairing, Permane emphasized the importance of "speed and pace," but also noted the need to consider long-term potential for advancement within the Red Bull ecosystem. "It’s not just about the here and now; it’s also about what they can do in the future," he explained.

Lawson currently sits ninth in the 2026 Drivers’ standings with 65 points, underscoring his solid performance this season. As the decision looms, the balance between immediate results and future potential will undoubtedly weigh heavily on Racing Bulls’ leadership.
