Rafael Camara: The Ferrari Junior Joining Haas in 2027

Rafael Camara has been selected to join Haas for the 2027 F1 season, following an impressive stint in the Ferrari Driver Academy. Known for his speed and maturity, Camara is set to bring fresh talent to the team.

Rafael Camara is set to make his Formula 1 debut with Haas in 2027, having convinced the team he's the right choice to fill their driver lineup. This Brazilian talent, who has been part of Ferrari's Driver Academy since 2022, follows in the footsteps of current Haas driver Oliver Bearman. Team Principal Ayao Komatsu outlined what Haas was after in their next driver: speed and a strong team ethic.

Komatsu's comments in Baku made it clear that speed can't be taught. "They need to be fast, but really they need to be a team player, especially for a small team like us," he explained. It's about how drivers integrate and motivate the team, and Camara seems to fit this bill perfectly.

Camara has shown his prowess with a record number of pole positions in a single FIA F3 season and sits just behind Charles Leclerc for most poles in a single F2 season. His performance during a Testing of Previous Cars session for Haas left the team impressed, outshining competitors like 2025 F2 Champion Leonardo Fornaroli and Jack Doohan.

Beyond just speed, Camara's ability to play as part of a team was on full display this season. While chasing his first F2 win, a mistake in Monaco postponed his victory, but he bounced back in Barcelona with a strategic win that showcased his ability to conserve tires and maintain speed. His Invicta Team Principal, James Robinson, praised the performance as "perfection," and highlighted the strong relationship between Camara and his engineer.

Maturity is another of Camara's strengths. Ferrari's Deputy Team Principal, Jerome D’Ambrosio, emphasized the Brazilian's confidence and self-awareness. Camara knows what he needs to perform and isn't afraid to voice that, a maturity that D’Ambrosio sees as crucial for a successful driver.

Camara's track record is impressive. After winning the Formula Regional title in 2024, he captured the FIA Formula 3 title with TRIDENT, and currently leads the Formula 2 standings. If he maintains his form, he could mirror Oscar Piastri's feat of winning three consecutive junior titles before stepping up to F1.

Haas believes they've checked all the boxes with Camara's selection, and as he joins their ranks next season, the team hopes his talents will make a noteworthy impact in Formula 1.
