Ralf Schumacher Suggests Lewis Hamilton Seeks Control Amid Ferrari Tensions

Ralf Schumacher comments on Lewis Hamilton's quest for influence at Ferrari, noting internal friction following the Singapore Grand Prix. Hamilton's defiance of team orders and his subsequent apology highlight ongoing challenges within the team.

Ralf Schumacher has observed that Lewis Hamilton appears determined to assert his authority at Ferrari, citing internal tensions evident during the Singapore Grand Prix. Despite Charles Leclerc finishing second behind Max Verstappen, Hamilton grabbed headlines by ignoring Ferrari's pit call late in the race. This decision cost him a potential double-podium finish, as his worn-out tyres relegated him to sixth place.

After the race, Hamilton apologized to both Ferrari and their passionate fanbase, the Tifosi, but Ralf Schumacher believes this incident points to deeper issues at Maranello. Speaking on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast, Schumacher acknowledged Hamilton's strong performance over the weekend but criticized his tendency to overreach.

Hamilton's qualifying sessions showcased his potential, with promising times in the first two sectors. However, tyre degradation in the final sector dashed his hopes for pole position. Schumacher remarked, "He pushed the car too hard – especially in the sprint qualifying. In other sessions, he was stronger except for Q3, where he overdid it chasing pole."

Schumacher also hinted at discord within the Ferrari garage. "There's a bit of internal friction," he noted, suggesting that Hamilton might be trying to exert more control over the team. This notion aligns with Martin Brundle's earlier comments about Hamilton attempting to "run" Ferrari from the cockpit.

Despite Ferrari's potential, strategic errors and minor mistakes have marred their performance. Schumacher advised Hamilton to integrate more with his team, noting, "At the moment, it feels like there's Lewis, and then there's Ferrari. He's trying to outshine the team and be the boss."

Furthermore, Schumacher suggested tensions between Hamilton and team principal Fred Vasseur. "I feel things aren't smooth with Fred Vasseur," he said, questioning whether Hamilton communicates directly with others about desired changes. This disharmony could be hampering Ferrari's progress, despite their storied history and potential.

In the broader context, Hamilton has argued that Ferrari receives more criticism than they deserve, while others see it as justified, pointing to the team's historical challenges with decision-making and adaptation.
