Verstappen Grabs First Pole at Singapore, Edging Out Leclerc

Max Verstappen secured his maiden pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix, narrowly defeating Charles Leclerc. Lewis Hamilton, who showed strong pace in earlier sessions, settled for third on the grid.

Max Verstappen clinched his first-ever pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix, outpacing Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in a fiercely competitive qualifying session at Marina Bay. Despite Hamilton appearing to be the favorite after leading Q1 and Q2, Verstappen's initial lap time of 1m 31.373s was enough to secure the top spot. Leclerc finished a mere 0.054s behind, while Hamilton, unable to improve on his final attempt, took third.

Hamilton had set the early pace, topping the timesheets in the initial phases of qualifying. However, Verstappen's quick lap in Q3 proved unbeatable. The Ferrari pair of Leclerc and Hamilton closely followed, with Kimi Antonelli and Lando Norris rounding out the top five. George Russell, aware of his impending grid penalty, initially took sixth place.

Oscar Piastri bounced back from a previous collision to claim seventh, ahead of Pierre Gasly and the Racing Bulls duo of Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad.

Qualifying Results

| Pos. | Driver | Time | | --- | --- | --- | | 1 | Max Verstappen | 1:31.373 | | 2 | Charles Leclerc | 1:31.427 | | 3 | Lewis Hamilton | 1:31.496 | | 4 | Kimi Antonelli | 1:31.562 | | 5 | Lando Norris | 1:31.712 |

Nico Hulkenberg narrowly missed the top 10, leading Ollie Bearman and Esteban Ocon. Carlos Sainz took P14, while Gabriel Bortoleto and Franco Colapinto, the latter hitting the barrier on his final lap, lined up behind.

Aston Martin's weekend took a hit as Fernando Alonso failed to progress to Q2, finishing P16. He was followed by Alex Albon, Lance Stroll, and the Cadillac drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas. It was a frustrating session for Red Bull's Isack Hadjar, who couldn't complete a representative lap due to ongoing reliability issues, finishing last.

Q1 – Ferrari Lead Amid Mechanical Woes for Hadjar

The session began with a flurry of activity as drivers rushed to set times on a drying track. Esteban Ocon had a heart-stopping moment, locking up and narrowly avoiding the wall, while Hadjar's mechanical gremlins continued from the earlier Sprint race, leaving him unable to set a competitive time.

At the sharp end, Norris, Piastri, Hamilton, and Verstappen traded fastest laps, with the reigning champion eventually taking the top spot. Meanwhile, Alonso, Albon, Stroll, Perez, Bottas, and Hadjar were all eliminated.

Q2 – Hamilton Quickest Again

Hamilton continued his strong form into Q2, setting a time that nearly put him four-tenths clear of the field. Verstappen slotted into P3, despite complaining about gear shifts. The Racing Bulls and Gasly also made it through, while Hulkenberg narrowly missed out on Q3, along with Bearman, Ocon, Sainz, Bortoleto, and Colapinto.

Q3 – Verstappen Seals the Deal

In the final segment, Verstappen laid down an impressive lap to take provisional pole. Leclerc managed to improve his time but couldn't quite catch the Dutchman. Hamilton, despite a strong middle sector, had to settle for third, with Antonelli, Norris, and Russell following.

Pierre Gasly claimed P8, leapfrogging Lawson, while Lindblad completed the top 10. After the session, Verstappen expressed his satisfaction with the result, noting the car's strong performance throughout the weekend.

The Singapore Grand Prix is scheduled to start at 8 PM local time on Sunday, with fans eagerly anticipating a thrilling race under the lights at Marina Bay.
