Verstappen Secures Pole for 2026 Singapore GP

Max Verstappen leads the grid for the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix, edging out Charles Leclerc. George Russell will start from the back following a hefty penalty.

Max Verstappen has clinched pole position for the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay, adding to his list of accomplishments after already securing the Sprint pole and victory. Charles Leclerc will join him on the front row, having found the necessary pace late in the session to outqualify his Ferrari teammate, Lewis Hamilton, who starts third.

In qualifying, George Russell faced an uphill battle from the outset, burdened with a 40-place grid penalty that relegated him to the back no matter his performance. Despite this, Russell participated in the session, providing Mercedes with valuable data, although he faced initial challenges with brake points on a drying track.

Isack Hadjar found himself in a spot of bother as well, unable to set a competitive time in his Red Bull, marking the first instance this season he hasn’t made it to Q3. Nevertheless, the spotlight was firmly on Verstappen and Hamilton, as they swapped fastest laps throughout the early stages of qualifying.

Ultimately, Verstappen's consistent pace was enough to maintain the top spot, despite Hamilton's efforts. Leclerc's last-gasp dash saw him leap into second, pushing Hamilton to the second row alongside Kimi Antonelli in the Mercedes.

The rest of the grid shapes up with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in the McLarens taking fifth and sixth, respectively. Pierre Gasly of Alpine secured seventh, with Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad, and Audi’s Nico Hulkenberg rounding out the top ten. Further down, notable placements include Fernando Alonso in 16th for Aston Martin, and both Cadillac drivers, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, languishing near the back. As the race approaches, all eyes will be on Verstappen to convert his pole into another victory in Singapore.
