Williams Reveals FW50 for 50th Anniversary in 2027

Williams is gearing up for its 50th anniversary in F1 with the unveiling of the FW50 in 2027. Celebrations include a fan exhibition and a special livery choice for the British Grand Prix.

Williams has announced that its 2027 Formula 1 car will be named the FW50, a nod to the team's 50th anniversary. This milestone places Williams alongside Ferrari and McLaren as the third team to reach this landmark. Though the exact launch date for the FW50 is still under wraps, February has been earmarked for its debut.

As part of the celebrations, Williams will host a fan exhibition, W50 Live, at 26 Leake Street in London. This event will showcase iconic cars from the team's history, including the FW06 from 1977, the 1987 title-winning FW11B, and the celebrated FW14B from 1992. Fans can also expect to see the FW19, driven by Jacques Villeneuve to championship glory, among other notable models.

In a nod to its storied past, Williams will allow fans to select the livery for its car at the British Grand Prix. Silverstone, a venue pivotal in the team's history, hosted Williams' first and 100th race victories. The celebrations will coincide with the 30th anniversary of Villeneuve’s championship win, with a Goodwood Festival of Speed tribute planned.

James Vowles, the team principal, reflected on the team's legacy, noting the enduring spirit of independence and determination instilled by founder Frank Williams. Vowles emphasized the importance of introducing these stories to a new generation of fans as the team looks to the future.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali praised Williams' contributions to the sport, highlighting the team's resilience and success. He remarked on the team's integral role in F1's identity and its lasting impact on the sport.

Throughout the year, fans can purchase limited-edition merchandise to commemorate the anniversary. Williams plans to cap off the year-long celebration with additional events as the 2027 season concludes in December.
