Alpine Eyeing Monza Victory After Gasly's Pole Position

Alpine is riding high after Pierre Gasly secured pole position for the Italian Grand Prix, sparking hopes of a victory at Monza. Managing Director Steve Nielsen shared the team's ambitions, buoyed by Gasly's stellar performance that saw him top the timesheets after a series of strategic tows and upgrades.

Gasly's pole is his first in Formula 1, adding a feather to his cap six years after his debut win at this iconic circuit. Following the qualifying session, Nielsen praised the team for their precise execution, from managing track conditions to orchestrating effective tows for Gasly and teammate Franco Colapinto. "We've put a significant upgrade on both Pierre's and Franco's cars," Nielsen explained. "Zandvoort didn't quite showcase our package, but here at Monza, it's clear the car's responding beautifully."

Nielsen was quick to commend Gasly, describing him as a "class act" who delivers when given the right tools. "We didn't always provide him with competitive machinery last year," Nielsen admitted, "but whenever we have, he's shown what he's capable of, especially at tracks like this, where he feels at home."

Looking ahead to race day, Nielsen is optimistic about Alpine's chances, given their car's low-drag characteristics, which could make overtaking a challenge for competitors. "We didn't set out expecting pole," he confessed, "but here we are. With good starts, strategy, and pit stops, anything's possible, and we're going to try and win it."
