Christian Horner Quashes Ferrari Return Speculation

Christian Horner has clarified recent remarks that fueled speculation about a potential move to Ferrari. He emphasized that he would only return to Formula 1 under conditions that include team ownership, which Ferrari does not offer.

Christian Horner, the former Red Bull team principal, has recently addressed rumors suggesting he might return to Formula 1 with Ferrari. These speculations gained traction after Horner described the Ferrari role as a 'dream' job, coinciding with chatter about Fred Vasseur's future with the Italian team. However, Horner has now clarified that his words were 'taken out of context.'

Speaking to The Times, Horner initially hinted that owning a stake in a team was a non-negotiable condition for his return to F1, with Ferrari being the only potential exception. This comment came amidst rumors about Vasseur possibly being replaced by the end of the 2026 season, despite the Scuderia's chief communication officer, Maria Conti, asserting full confidence in Vasseur.

In a follow-up interview with The Guardian, Horner emphasized that Ferrari does not meet his criteria for a return, as they are not offering team ownership. He stated, 'Ferrari is the biggest brand in F1. It’s the most historic team. But I’ve accumulated some phenomenal capital behind me, to look at the next move I potentially make in the sport. That would be with ownership attached to it, and Ferrari aren’t going to sell shares.'

Horner, who was dismissed by Red Bull following the 2025 British Grand Prix after two decades at the helm, insists he would only consider returning to F1 for the 'right opportunity with like-minded people that want to win,' rather than simply for the sake of participation.

Reflecting on his future, Horner mused about the next decade: 'I’m looking forward to finding out. It could be at a racetrack, it could be sitting on a tractor.' Despite his openness to new ventures, he affirmed that his passion remains with Formula 1, saying, 'The only thing that really motivates and excites me is Formula 1.'
