F1 Drivers Test 2027 Pirelli Tyres in Hungary
While most of F1 takes a break, three drivers remain at the Hungaroring for Pirelli's 2027 tyre test. Franco Colapinto, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Jak Crawford are busy on track evaluating new compounds.
As the Formula 1 paddock slips into summer mode, three drivers are still hard at work at the Hungaroring. Franco Colapinto, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Jak Crawford are participating in a Pirelli tyre test, focusing on developing compounds for the 2027 season.
While the majority of teams have packed up after the Hungarian Grand Prix, Alpine's Colapinto and Audi's Bortoleto continue their on-track duties. Aston Martin also joined the fray, with third driver Jak Crawford taking the wheel on Tuesday. The test involved a series of runs with the C3 tyre options, followed by extended stints to assess performance and degradation.
Colapinto and Bortoleto's task didn't stop there. They delved into testing various C4 and C5 compound prototypes, simulating both qualifying laps and longer runs. Bortoleto managed the highest lap count on Tuesday, clocking 141 laps, though Colapinto was quicker, posting a 1m 20.371s lap time compared to Bortoleto’s 1m 20.813s. Crawford completed 136 laps, with his fastest lap coming in at 1m 24.598s.
Testing continues for Colapinto and Bortoleto, who remain focused on a similar program as the previous day, diligently gathering data to aid Pirelli in their tyre development quest.
