Rafael Camara's strong performance in Hungary has intensified talks linking him to a potential Haas F1 seat in 2027. Meanwhile, his impressive results have brought him closer to the top of the F2 standings.
Ferrari junior driver Rafael Camara has made a significant leap towards the top of the F2 standings following a standout weekend in Hungary. Amidst whispers of a possible 2027 F1 seat with Haas, Camara demonstrated why he’s one to watch.
In our F1 Fast Track segment, we award points to drivers who impress over an F2 or F3 weekend. Camara bagged the full three points this time, thanks to his P4 finish in the sprint and P3 in the feature race. His performance not only kept him in the championship hunt but also served as a strategic strike against rivals Nikola Tsolov and Gabriele Mini. Now trailing Tsolov by just 22 points with five rounds left, Camara might be peaking at just the right moment.
Reflecting on his season so far, Camara said, "We’ve had a few rounds where we’re consistently in the points, which is crucial for the championship." He added that the upcoming break would be a good time to recharge and analyze areas for improvement.
Elsewhere, Noel Leon earned two points after benefiting from a timely Virtual Safety Car that helped him jump ahead during pit stops, securing a feature race win. Meanwhile, Kush Maini, who had built a comfortable lead, had to settle for third after the VSC shuffled the order.
In the F3 arena, Audi-backed Freddie Slater emerged as the new championship leader after a thrilling victory over his American rival Ugo Ugochukwu, who is expected to move up to F2 next year with Red Bull's backing. "It’s very special," Slater remarked about his first F3 win, though he remains cautious about the title fight with the Madrid finale looming large.
Despite a setback, Ugochukwu managed an impressive P2, demonstrating resilience after a few tough outings. Meanwhile, Brando Badoer returned to the podium with a solid performance at the Hungaroring.
