Kimi Antonelli Edges Closer to Championship with US Grand Prix Win

Kimi Antonelli's victory at the United States Grand Prix has brought him within two points of clinching the F1 World Championship. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen shared their thoughts on an action-packed race.

Kimi Antonelli delivered a commanding performance at the United States Grand Prix, securing his ninth win of the season and bringing him tantalizingly close to the F1 World Championship title. The Italian driver led for most of the race at the Circuit of the Americas, highlighting his and the team's hard work. "It was the result we needed," Antonelli remarked, praising the team's efforts in implementing a successful new package and executing a flawless one-stop strategy. He remains cautiously optimistic about his championship chances, stating, "I know we’re very close, but yeah, we try to finish on a high, and hopefully we can clinch it very soon."

Charles Leclerc, who finished second for Ferrari, was philosophical about his race, acknowledging it was a strong performance despite falling short of victory. "It was quite a good race," Leclerc reflected. "Unfortunately, we came short of the victory, which is eventually our target. But at the end of the day, it was a positive, a positive race." He noted the difficulty of the first stint and the strategic decision that saw Antonelli go for a one-stop, which wasn't an option for Ferrari. Leclerc enjoyed a competitive race with Max Verstappen and others, managing to make a tricky pass on Verstappen before facing challenges with battery management.

As for Verstappen, finishing third left him out of the championship race, with only Lewis Hamilton and George Russell able to mathematically challenge Antonelli. Verstappen admitted, "I think our overall pace was not good enough, and then probably also the tyres that we had available were probably not the right ones." Despite these setbacks, he was content with a podium finish, albeit with a hint of luck courtesy of a late Virtual Safety Car.

With the United States Grand Prix in the books, all eyes are on Antonelli as he edges ever closer to sealing the 2026 F1 World Championship.
