Fresh from standing atop the podium in Hungary, Lando Norris is brimming with confidence about McLaren's prospects for the second half of the 2026 season. As the championship resumes at the Dutch Grand Prix, Norris is optimistic that McLaren can remain competitive against heavyweights like Mercedes and Ferrari.
The season didn’t start smoothly for McLaren, with a double DNS in China casting early doubts. But things have been looking up, and Norris's recent win in Hungary has only fueled the team's ambitions. However, he remains realistic about their chances at Zandvoort, emphasizing the need to fully understand the recent upgrades, particularly the new floor, which played a pivotal role in Budapest.
"I'm not one to get carried away," Norris mentioned during Thursday's media briefing. "We're not assuming another win is in the bag, but our goals remain high. We need to grasp whether the new parts offer universal performance gains or if their impact is track-specific."
Reflecting on how Zandvoort might suit McLaren’s car, Norris pointed out the similarities and differences with Budapest. "It's similar in some respects but also quite different due to factors like wind and temperature. We know our car’s strengths and weaknesses, and the performance in Hungary was probably better than anything last year. Yet, we're still figuring out some inconsistencies."
Despite these uncertainties, Norris is buoyed by the progress McLaren has made. He attributes much of the team's current success to the leadership and mindset within the team. "The biggest factor is McLaren itself," Norris stated. "The team, the leadership from Andrea Stella and Zak Brown, and the mindset we have are crucial."
Norris believes this mentality is essential for competing with the best in the world. "The team gives me reassurance. If I can replicate my Budapest performance, I’m confident in our capabilities," he added.
With the Dutch Grand Prix ahead, Norris is both cautious and hopeful. His recent triumph provides a morale boost, but the real test will be seeing how the McLaren package fares on the varied circuits that lie ahead.
