Max Verstappen Joins Elite Club with 50 F1 Pole Positions
Max Verstappen has reached the milestone of 50 pole positions in Formula 1, joining a prestigious group of only five drivers. This achievement places him alongside legends like Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, and Lewis Hamilton.
Max Verstappen has etched his name into the history books yet again, securing his 50th Formula 1 pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix. This achievement places him in an exclusive club of drivers who have reached this impressive milestone.
Sebastian Vettel – 57 Pole Positions
Sebastian Vettel was the last driver before Verstappen to hit 50 poles, achieving this at the 2017 Mexico City Grand Prix. Vettel's first pole came at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix when he was just 21, making him the youngest polesitter at the time. His career took off from there, with a successful stint at Red Bull resulting in 44 more poles and four World Championships. He later joined Ferrari, where he reached a total of 57 poles, the last in Japan in 2019.
Ayrton Senna – 65 Pole Positions
Ayrton Senna, a legend in his own right, began his F1 journey with Toleman in 1984 and secured his first pole with Lotus in 1985. His partnership with McLaren from 1988 to 1993 was particularly fruitful, leading to numerous poles and three World Championships. Senna's 50th pole came at the 1990 Spanish Grand Prix, and he amassed 65 in total, despite the tragic end to his career at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
Michael Schumacher – 68 Pole Positions
Michael Schumacher broke Senna's pole record, setting a new benchmark with 68 poles. His first pole came in 1994 with Benetton, and he continued to dominate during his years with Ferrari. Schumacher's 50th pole was secured at Suzuka in 2002, and although he temporarily returned with Mercedes, his pole-winning days ended in 2006 at the French Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton – 104 Pole Positions
Lewis Hamilton, known for his fierce rivalry with Verstappen, leads the pole position chart by a significant margin. His first pole came at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix during his debut season with McLaren. Hamilton later moved to Mercedes, where he achieved his 50th pole at the 2016 Australian Grand Prix and surpassed Schumacher's record a year later. By 2023, he had amassed 104 poles, though his switch to Ferrari hasn't yet added to that total.
Verstappen's entry into this elite group highlights his dominance and skill in the sport, joining the ranks of these legendary drivers.
