Ralf Schumacher has pointed the finger at Lando Norris for a risky move that ended in a collision with Oscar Piastri during the Singapore Grand Prix Sprint. The incident cost McLaren valuable points and left Schumacher questioning Norris' comparison to Max Verstappen.
In the Singapore Grand Prix Sprint, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri saw potential points slip away after a last-lap collision. Ralf Schumacher didn't mince words, attributing the mishap primarily to Norris. Attempting a bold move in wet conditions at Turn 5, Norris clipped his teammate's rear-right wheel, sending both McLarens into a spin. Piastri couldn't recover, while Norris managed to limp across the line for a solitary point.
Schumacher, speaking on Sky Sports Germany, was less than impressed with Norris' decision-making, drawing a stark contrast between the Briton and Max Verstappen. "This incident will definitely be discussed to ensure it doesn't happen again," Schumacher remarked, noting that the team bore some responsibility for not managing their drivers better.
McLaren's team principal, Andrea Stella, described the incident as unacceptable. Despite the team being in a position to secure decent points, the clash left them with little to show. Stella refrained from assigning blame, instead emphasizing a need for unity and prioritizing team interests over individual egos.
The incident adds to what has been a challenging time for Norris, who had another misstep at the previous weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. Schumacher suggested that these mistakes highlight the gap between Norris and the likes of Max Verstappen, with whom comparisons have been drawn in the past.
Looking ahead, McLaren will need to address these internal dynamics as they prepare for the remaining races. The team is keen to avoid further costly mistakes, especially with Andrea Kimi Antonelli's anticipated arrival on the horizon.
