Nico Hulkenberg Eyes Improvement Despite Decent Qualifying in Hungary

Nico Hulkenberg's qualifying session at the Hungarian Grand Prix ended with a mix of satisfaction and concern. The Audi driver secured a respectable P10, marking a return to Q3, yet he remains wary of the time deficit to his closest competitors.

Despite the session going off without a hitch, Hulkenberg is one of the four drivers still seeking their first points this season. The Hungaroring's notorious difficulty for overtaking offers some hope for a strategic race day, but his final lap time of 1:18.686 was slightly slower than his Q2 performance. This left him about four-tenths behind Arvid Lindblad, who placed ninth.

"It was pretty much trouble-free, which is nice for once," Hulkenberg admitted. "We maximized what we had, and it's positive to be in Q3. Still, the gap to P9 and even larger gaps ahead are concerning. It's bigger than anticipated."

The gap widened to 0.830 seconds when compared to Red Bull's Isack Hadjar in P8. Audi, however, is more focused on battling with midfield teams like Alpine, Racing Bulls, and Haas. The team has managed some competitive showings in recent races, although their points tally remains modest at just ten.

In Belgium, Audi achieved a notable finish with Gabriel Bortoleto taking P8, marking them as 'best of the rest.' Hulkenberg remains optimistic about replicating such performances in Hungary.

When asked about taking the fight to Racing Bulls, Hulkenberg was cautiously optimistic: "I think over race distance, we should be competitive. I believe we can challenge them."
