Verstappen Finally Conquers Singapore with Dominant Win

Max Verstappen secured his first victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, leading from start to finish. The Red Bull driver held off Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, while Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli completed the podium.

Max Verstappen finally broke his Singapore Grand Prix duck with a commanding performance that saw him lead from start to finish, holding off Charles Leclerc in the process. The Marina Bay circuit was the last track on the current F1 calendar where Verstappen hadn't yet tasted victory, but he checked that box with aplomb.

As the race began, Verstappen and Leclerc started on the soft Pirelli tires, while Lewis Hamilton, starting third, opted for mediums. Leclerc got a strong start but Verstappen muscled past to take the lead at Turn 1. The opening lap was incident-free, with Hamilton maintaining third and Kimi Antonelli pressuring him closely.

Behind the leaders, the McLaren duo was in pursuit, creating a gap from Liam Lawson. Meanwhile, George Russell, starting from P19 due to an engine penalty, managed to climb to 16th. The Haas drivers, Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon, had their own battle, with Bearman eventually coming out on top.

Early drama came courtesy of Gabriel Bortoleto's Audi, which developed a gearbox issue on Lap 8, bringing out a Virtual Safety Car (VSC). The Audi caught fire, briefly closing the pit lane as marshals extinguished the flames.

Verstappen held a steady lead of 1.5 seconds over Leclerc, while Hamilton, three seconds further back, faced pressure from Antonelli. McLaren's strategic discussions were in full swing, with Norris and Piastri engaging in tactical maneuvers.

Hamilton switched to softs after his medium stint and quickly regained positions, while Antonelli and Leclerc also made their pit stops, reshuffling the order. Russell capitalized on pit stops to break into the points, while Alpine's Franco Colapinto retired with a driveline issue.

The race saw another VSC on Lap 39 when Lance Stroll's day ended prematurely, affecting pit strategies for Leclerc, Antonelli, and Russell. As the race approached its final stages, Verstappen had extended his lead to 8.5 seconds over Hamilton, with Leclerc and Norris following.

Leclerc was eager not to waste time behind his teammate and swiftly overtook, but Verstappen was comfortably ahead by 15 seconds. As the race neared its conclusion, Norris and Antonelli closed in on Hamilton, who was struggling with tire degradation.

Antonelli took advantage of Hamilton's issues, overtaking him for third, with Norris also getting past the Ferrari. Despite flirting with track limits, Antonelli managed to secure his podium finish.

On the final laps, Piastri overtook Hamilton, cementing his position. Verstappen crossed the finish line seven seconds ahead of Leclerc, with Antonelli third. Norris and Piastri secured fourth and fifth for McLaren, while Hamilton, Lawson, Hulkenberg, Russell, and Hadjar rounded out the top ten.
