Max Verstappen clinched a significant pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix, marking his 50th career pole. With Singapore remaining one of the few tracks where he hasn't won, Verstappen is eager to change that statistic.
Max Verstappen continued his impressive form by securing pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix, following his Sprint race win. This achievement at the Marina Bay Street Circuit marks the 50th pole of his career, and it’s a particularly meaningful one for Verstappen, who has yet to win a race at this venue.
Reflecting on his performance, Verstappen expressed his satisfaction, stating, "This is the one I wanted." He noted the competitive nature of the qualifying session, acknowledging the narrow margins among the frontrunners. "The car has been pretty strong the whole weekend," he added, and although there are areas for improvement, he was pleased to have done enough to secure pole.
Singapore, along with the new Madring track, is one of the few places where Verstappen hasn't claimed victory, adding extra motivation for the Red Bull driver to succeed on Sunday. However, he might face a challenge at the start, as he described his Sprint race start as "awful," losing out to Mercedes' George Russell.
Looking ahead to the race, Verstappen maintains a positive outlook, humorously noting that his start "cannot get worse" and can only improve. He remains focused on converting this pole position into a win and breaking his Singapore duck.
