Carlos Sainz Commits to Williams with New Multi-Year Deal

Carlos Sainz has signed a new multi-year contract with Williams, solidifying the team's driver line-up for the 2027 season. Just a day after Alex Albon confirmed his own contract extension, Sainz's decision reflects his commitment to the Grove-based outfit despite the team's current struggles.

Sainz joined Williams in 2025 after leaving Ferrari and quickly found a home at the team, achieving two podium finishes and helping them climb to fifth in the Constructors' Championship that year. However, 2026 has proven more challenging, with the team working hard to regain competitiveness.

"I’m thrilled to announce my continued journey with the Atlassian Williams F1 Team family," Sainz remarked. He expressed confidence in the team’s potential, both at the factory and on the track, believing they have the tools to improve their standing.

Sainz's move to Williams was initially driven by a long-term vision shared by Team Principal James Vowles, which has so far proven enticing enough to keep him onboard. Vowles praised Sainz's contributions, highlighting his leadership and dedication to extracting every bit of performance possible. "Carlos is a leader of this team," Vowles stated, confident in the team’s capacity to compete at the front.

Currently, Sainz has managed to score six points this season, with his best race finishes being ninth place in China, Miami, and Canada. He remains optimistic that upcoming upgrades, starting with the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, will improve their odds of securing more consistent top-10 finishes.

With Sainz and Albon both secured for the future, Williams is setting its sights on rebuilding and returning to the forefront of the F1 grid. The combination of their talents, according to Vowles, forms one of the strongest line-ups on the grid, positioning them to capitalize on any advancements the team makes.
