Sergio Perez finds himself in the spotlight as Cadillac announced an extension to his contract, ensuring his stay with the team until at least 2029. This news arrives just before his home race weekend, which will also be his 300th Formula 1 start. Perez's performance since his return to F1 has evidently impressed Cadillac's leadership. Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas's future with the team remains undecided.
In other news, Red Bull Powertrains has been linked to possible future supply deals, most notably with Aston Martin. However, Laurent Mekies and Mike Krack have both denied these rumors. Mekies clarified that Red Bull is not prepared to provide engines to teams outside of Racing Bulls yet, but left the door open for future seasons.
Elsewhere, former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has echoed Lewis Hamilton's concerns about rival teams finding extra speed in qualifying—a trick Ferrari has struggled to replicate. Despite strong showings in free practice, Ferrari hasn't consistently translated this into race performance.
Over at Audi, Thomas Fuhr, former head of Mercedes' engine division, has been appointed as the Formula Racing CEO. Fuhr's leadership marks a significant step for Audi as it continues to build its presence in F1, following its entry announcement in 2022.
Finally, the Mexico City Grand Prix will see several rookies take the wheel during FP1. George Russell is among the drivers stepping aside, as six teams have confirmed rookie participation. This is part of the requirement to run at least four rookie FP1 sessions each season.
