Isack Hadjar received a formal warning from the FIA after a fan altercation at the Mexican Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver agreed with the decision, citing a breach of personal space.
Isack Hadjar, representing Red Bull at the Mexican Grand Prix, found himself in hot water with the FIA following an incident with a fan. The incident, captured on social media, showed Hadjar pushing a fan who had approached him for a selfie, leading to a formal warning from the stewards.
The fan had placed a hand on Hadjar’s back as the driver was making his way to the Red Bull garage. In response, Hadjar initially resisted before pushing the fan away. The FIA stewards, after reviewing the situation, decided that a formal warning was an appropriate response.
The stewards' report stated Hadjar was running late for the first practice session and had already stopped for a photo with another fan when he was approached aggressively by a paddock guest. With minimal security present, Hadjar's reaction was seen as a breach of regulations, though several mitigating factors were noted. These included the aggressive nature of the approach, the congestion in the area, and the invasion of Hadjar's personal space.
After qualifying seventh, Hadjar expressed satisfaction with the stewards’ judgment, noting, "I am because they are right. It makes sense. They took the right decision. I was talking to stewards, and they understood my point."
When asked if similar issues occur at other circuits or if the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is a standout, Hadjar remarked, "It can happen anywhere. You take a ticket to any race, and this guy can travel all around the world. So I can’t control him." Hadjar emphasized the importance of respecting personal space, especially when he is focused on work, rather than treating the paddock like a reality show.
Reflecting on the overall paddock atmosphere, Hadjar agreed with his teammate Max Verstappen's description of the modern F1 environment as akin to a "zoo," suggesting a need for more restraint.
In the fast-paced world of Formula 1, the balance between fan interaction and maintaining professional boundaries remains a delicate one. Hadjar's experience is a reminder of the challenges drivers face beyond the track.
