Valtteri Bottas remains unconcerned about whispers of a potential exit from Cadillac's F1 team. Team boss Marcin Budkowski hints at driver change possibilities but stays tight-lipped on specifics.
Valtteri Bottas isn't losing sleep over speculation that his seat at Cadillac might be in jeopardy. Despite team principal Marcin Budkowski's ambiguous comments about potential driver changes, Bottas maintains his sense of security. The Finn, who joined Cadillac alongside Sergio Perez under long-term contracts, has faced talk of the team considering alternatives.
Bottas has struggled to keep pace with Perez, trailing him 11-4 in races where both have finished. This has fueled rumors that his position could be under threat, with names like reserve driver Colton Herta and Esteban Ocon being floated as potential replacements. Ocon, now without a seat after Haas chose to sign Ferrari junior Rafael Camara, was a notable topic during Budkowski's recent FIA press conference.
While Budkowski acknowledged being approached by several drivers, he refrained from naming anyone specific, including Ocon. "Every team principal gets calls from drivers or their managers on the market," he said, diplomatically dodging any direct confirmation. He also remained mum about the contracts of Bottas and Perez, emphasizing that such matters aren't typically discussed publicly but rather through official team announcements when the time is right.
Yet, Bottas appears unruffled by the chatter. After qualifying at the Circuit of the Americas, he shrugged off the rumors, saying, "I mean, I’ve heard some rumors, but I know my situation, and it’s all good. It’s Formula 1; everyone wants to be in Formula One, so that’s how it goes."
Meanwhile, Budkowski was also queried about Herta's FP1 appearance at the Circuit of the Americas, which some interpreted as a sign of Cadillac's future intentions. His response was enigmatic: "It’s a point away," he told Sky Sports, leaving interpretations open.
For now, Bottas is taking the speculation in stride, focusing on the present season and his standing with Cadillac.
