Antonelli Reflects on Narrow Miss in Intense Spanish GP Qualifying

Kimi Antonelli found himself reflecting on a missed opportunity at the Spanish Grand Prix qualifying, where McLaren's Lando Norris clinched pole in the dying moments. The Mercedes driver, fresh off a historic win at Monza, had been a strong contender throughout the session at the Madring, consistently putting in competitive lap times.

Despite his best efforts, Antonelli's final lap in Q3 was only enough to edge out Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton from the top spot. However, Norris delivered what he described as "one of the best laps" of his career, snatching pole from Antonelli by a mere 0.011 seconds.

In the post-qualifying interviews, Antonelli acknowledged the intensity of the session: "I thought it was a good lap, but then this guy just snatched it away, so a good job to them," he said, with a nod to Norris's performance. He also noted the challenges posed by the hot track conditions, which made finding the right balance tricky.

Antonelli, who ended with a time of 1m 31.835s, remains hopeful about the race. With overtaking predicted to be difficult on the circuit's complex layout, a strong start could be crucial. Holding a 66-point lead over teammate George Russell, who qualified sixth, Antonelli's title hopes remain robust.

Looking ahead to the race, Antonelli shared his strategy: "Hopefully a good start. Hopefully we can get the jump. If the opportunity comes to win the race, we’ll try to take it. Otherwise, we’ll just try to do our best race and then we’ll see what happens."

While Norris may have stolen the show in qualifying, Antonelli's focus is firmly on the race ahead, as he aims to add another victory to his impressive season tally.
