Untelevised team radio reveals Valtteri Bottas's frustration after a suspension failure ended his race at the Mexican Grand Prix. Cadillac commits to investigating the incident thoroughly as Bottas reflects on safety and looks forward to São Paulo.
Valtteri Bottas's race at the 2026 Mexican Grand Prix came to an abrupt end when his Cadillac suffered a dramatic left-front suspension failure on the high-speed approach to Turn 1. The Finnish driver was visibly frustrated as he exited his car and was subsequently taken to the medical center for precautionary checks. Thankfully, he was released after being confirmed fit.
The incident, which was not broadcast on television, was captured over team radio, where Bottas expressed his anger in no uncertain terms. His exchange with race engineer John Howard, though unrepeatable due to broadcast rights, clearly conveyed Bottas's frustration, punctuated with a series of expletives.
This isn't the first time Cadillac has faced suspension troubles this season; Bottas's teammate, Sergio Perez, experienced a similar issue in Canada earlier in the year. In response, Cadillac has pledged a thorough investigation into the cause of the failure. Bottas himself remarked on the importance of understanding what went wrong to prevent future occurrences, praising the FIA's safety efforts while expressing disappointment at not finishing the race despite a promising start.
Marcin Budkowski, Cadillac's team principal, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the team will ensure such failures are rectified to avoid repeat incidents.
As the season progresses, Cadillac remains in 11th place in the constructors' championship, yet to score a point in their debut season. Bottas's best finish this year was 13th in China. With his seat potentially at risk for 2027, Bottas is under scrutiny, with test driver Colton Herta and Mercedes reserve Fred Vesti as possible contenders. Meanwhile, Perez has secured his place in the team until 2029 after signing a new contract.
Looking ahead, Bottas and Cadillac aim to regroup and make progress at the upcoming São Paulo Grand Prix.
