Ferrari Addresses Hamilton's Critique on Team Dynamics

Fred Vasseur responds to Lewis Hamilton's critique of Ferrari's team coordination after an incident-laden Mexico City Grand Prix. Ferrari's internal strategies are under scrutiny as they continue to miss out on race victories.

Fred Vasseur, Ferrari's team principal, has addressed Lewis Hamilton's concerns over Ferrari's internal dynamics, which he labeled a 'big problem' following the Mexico City Grand Prix. The race saw Hamilton finish second as Charles Leclerc dropped out of podium contention, with both Ferrari drivers embroiled in an on-track misadventure.

Ferrari has shown strong performance early in recent grand prix weekends but has struggled to translate this into race wins. The Mexico City incident was another example, with Ferrari's drivers seemingly prioritizing personal battles over team success. Leclerc, after trailing Hamilton into Turn 1, attempted an ambitious move at Turn 4. This led to both Ferraris leaving the track, allowing Max Verstappen to capitalize on the chaos, while Leclerc received a five-second penalty.

A red flag following Valtteri Bottas' crash prompted Hamilton to voice his frustrations over the radio, stating, "We've got big problems. Big, big problems." Post-race, he reiterated the need for serious internal discussions. Ferrari has faced criticism for failing to manage their drivers effectively, a flaw previously highlighted during the Dutch Grand Prix when Hamilton lost time behind his teammate.

Vasseur, when questioned about the situation, preferred to keep details private, stating, "We discussed it with them. I don’t want to interpret what they said on the radio." He added, "I won’t comment anymore on this situation. Let me discuss with them."

Despite the setback, Vasseur chose to focus on the positives, noting Ferrari's recent improvements in performance. "The positive is that my frustration is coming from there. We did a good step forward in terms of pure performance. Now it’s the third or fourth race in a row that we are scoring more points than our competitors," he said. With a pole position achieved and a potential one-two finish within reach, Vasseur highlighted the team's pace, acknowledging the frustration of not capitalizing on their strong position.
