Sergio Perez Braces for a Challenging 300th GP at Home

Sergio Perez is set to mark his 300th race at the Mexican Grand Prix, but he's cautious about the challenge ahead. Despite recent progress, he anticipates a tough outing for Cadillac on home soil.

Sergio Perez is gearing up for a significant milestone as he prepares to make his 300th Grand Prix start at the Mexican Grand Prix. Racing at home is always special, but Perez, who drives for Cadillac, anticipates a tough race despite the celebratory occasion.

While Perez is excited about the milestone, he remains realistic about the challenges on track. "This year I’m really looking forward to it," Perez said. "We’re doing a road show on the Wednesday before. It’s my 300th race as well at home, so it’s pretty incredible that all of this has happened in Mexico. Super, super happy and so much looking forward to it."

However, Cadillac's recent performance has left them trailing at the back, despite a more promising display in Austin. Perez, who has returned to the sport following a 2025 sabbatical, has signed a multi-year contract with Cadillac and knows the limitations they face at the Mexican GP.

"Just to have a good time, celebrate with them the 300th race and hopefully we can put on a good show," Perez mentioned. "But overall, I think it’s going to be a painful one as well. There are some races where we seem to be a little bit closer than others. But we will keep pushing."

Perez's performance in Austin was notable, finishing on the same lap as competitors from Williams, Aston Martin, and others. But he remains cautious, emphasizing that results are very dependent on the circuit. "I think it’s really very track dependent," he said. "In the race, I was surprised that we were a bit closer in that regard. So we just have to keep it down and keep it in control."

His teammate, Valtteri Bottas, is also hopeful about Cadillac's chances at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Reflecting on the US GP, Bottas noted, "I think what helped was the cloud cover. It was a bit cooler. We know we are not great when it’s high temperatures, so that helped a bit. But I thought it’s going to be more difficult for us here, honestly. So that’s why it’s kind of positive, and I think Mexico should be hopefully a bit better for us."
