Verstappen Content with Italian GP Podium Despite Deployment Woes

Max Verstappen was satisfied with his third-place finish at the Italian Grand Prix, even as he acknowledged a deployment issue that hampered his Red Bull's performance. Starting from fifth, Verstappen quickly climbed to third, and even briefly took the lead after Ferrari's Charles Leclerc crashed, prompting a race restart. However, he was eventually overtaken by the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli.

Verstappen made a spirited charge back up the field after a pit stop under a Virtual Safety Car, showcasing his overtaking skills. "I had to send it many times around the outside," he remarked about his battles en route to the podium.

Reflecting on the race, Verstappen explained his satisfaction with the result, noting the team's struggle with straight-line speed. "I tried to battle, but we were just too slow on the straight," he said. "We lacked the same deployment, and that cost us a lot because at one point, it's not defendable anymore. Once Kimi and George were ahead, I could only hold on in Overtake Mode. We miss a bit of deployment on tracks like this, but a podium is a good result."

When asked about his overtakes, Verstappen pointed out the necessity of his aggressive moves. "I was so slow on the straight that my only chance was to brake late and try to regain positions," he explained. "It worked, so I'm happy with that and pleased to be on the podium."
