Verstappen Takes a Realistic Approach to Red Bull's Monza Prospects

Max Verstappen is keeping his feet firmly on the ground when it comes to Red Bull's prospects at the Italian Grand Prix. After a disappointing early exit at his home race in Zandvoort, the Dutch driver is focusing on having a solid weekend at Monza.

Verstappen's last outing ended abruptly after a crash on the first lap, leaving his teammate Liam Lawson to pick up the slack with a seventh-place finish. Looking ahead to Monza, Verstappen will miss the first practice session, with Ayumu Iwasa taking over the duties before he returns for FP2. Despite securing victory at the track last season, Verstappen is tempering expectations this time around.

"We'll see," he commented on the upcoming race. "I'm not doing FP1, so we'll need to see how the car feels afterward. It's important to find the right setup, but we also have to be realistic about where we stand as a team right now."

Verstappen admits it's crucial to manage expectations and focus on understanding the car's performance on the track. "It's going to be complex with the energy here, so we need to understand that first. From there, we'll see where we fall in the pecking order," he added.

Reflecting on the Dutch Grand Prix, Verstappen acknowledged that even if he had finished the race, it wouldn't have been a standout performance. "I would have liked to complete the race, but I doubt it would have been magical for us in terms of pace," he said. "We were off all weekend, and I wasn't feeling well."

Despite the challenges at Zandvoort, Verstappen remains positive about his experiences there, cherishing the victories and support from the fans. "It was a crazy experience, and I'm glad I had the chance to have a home Grand Prix like that," he concluded.

As the weekend in Monza approaches, Verstappen's focus is on steady progress rather than dramatic victories, underscoring the need for a balanced and realistic approach in the high-stakes world of Formula 1.
