Mercedes heads to Brazil with a shot at the 2026 Teams' Championship, needing to outscore Ferrari by just three points to clinch the title. With a solid lead, the Silver Arrows are poised to secure victory unless Ferrari pulls off an unlikely 1-2 finish.
As Mercedes arrives in Brazil, they have a prime opportunity to secure the 2026 Teams' Championship. The Silver Arrows currently hold a commanding 126-point lead over Ferrari, thanks to consistent performances throughout the season, including a double points finish in Mexico City.
Kimi Antonelli has already locked in the Drivers' Championship after his third-place finish last weekend in Mexico. Now, the focus shifts to the team title, which could be clinched at Interlagos if Mercedes manages to extend their lead over Ferrari to more than 128 points by the end of the race weekend.
With four races remaining, 172 points are theoretically available if a team achieves a perfect 1-2 finish at each Grand Prix. However, no team has managed such a feat this season. Mercedes, with their occasional 1-2 finishes, and Ferrari, having only both drivers on the podium once, haven't dominated to that extent.
Currently, Mercedes leads the championship with 630 points, with Antonelli contributing nine wins and George Russell adding three. Ferrari trails at 504 points, having only secured two wins—one each from Lewis Hamilton in Barcelona and Charles Leclerc at Silverstone. Despite Max Verstappen's impressive late-season form, winning three of the last four races, Red Bull has fallen out of contention.
For Mercedes to wrap up the title in Brazil, they need to outscore Ferrari by at least three points. Should Ferrari fail to score, even an eighth-place finish from either Antonelli or Russell would suffice for Mercedes to take the championship. Conversely, a Ferrari 1-2 finish would extend the title fight into the remaining races.
If the feat isn't achieved in Brazil, Mercedes will have another chance at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, with the season concluding in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
