Palmer's Prescription: Ferrari's Path to Staying in the Title Race

Despite Mercedes and their star driver Kimi Antonelli currently leading both championships, Palmer believes Ferrari can still make a play for the top if they tidy up their act.
Antonelli holds a 50-point lead over Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' standings, while Mercedes enjoys a 72-point buffer over Ferrari in the Constructors' Championship. Recent races have seen Antonelli suffer setbacks, such as a mechanical failure in Barcelona and a mishap with a wheel shield at Silverstone. Yet, Palmer points out that Ferrari hasn’t fully capitalized on these openings.
Palmer insists Ferrari must eliminate "sloppy" mistakes to maintain pressure on Antonelli. "Kimi's behavior under title pressure is still an unknown," Palmer observed. "Ferrari needs to keep up the pressure and see how he reacts."
The former driver expressed disappointment with Ferrari’s recent performances, noting that they squandered opportunities presented by Antonelli's misfortunes. He highlighted incidents like Charles Leclerc's jump start at Silverstone and a premature pit lane speed limiter release in Hungary. "It's hard to argue those aren’t sloppy," Palmer remarked.
Palmer was particularly critical of an impeding penalty in Hungary, which he attributed to both the race engineer and Hamilton. Such mistakes, he warns, could cost Ferrari points and the chance to apply pressure on Antonelli.
James Hinchcliffe, an IndyCar race winner and analyst, echoed Palmer's sentiments, emphasizing the need for Ferrari to be flawless to remain competitive. "We don't know how Kimi will respond if the points gap narrows," Hinchcliffe said. "Ferrari must seize any opportunity that comes their way."
