Komatsu Dismisses Rumors of Bearman's Haas Contract Delay Due to Salary Demands

Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu has refuted claims that Oliver Bearman's contract delay is linked to salary demands. Komatsu emphasized that the rumors are baseless as Haas seeks to continue their partnership with Bearman.

Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu has stepped into the spotlight to address swirling rumors about Oliver Bearman's contract situation with the team. As the Formula 1 circus rolls into Mexico City for the Grand Prix, speculation has been rife that Bearman's extension is being held up by his alleged demand for a hefty pay rise. However, Komatsu has labeled these claims as 'absolute nonsense.'

In anticipation of the weekend's race, Bearman himself hinted at ongoing discussions, saying, 'there's a few things in the background that we're working on.' Yet, during Friday's press conference, Komatsu was firm in stating that both Haas and Bearman want to continue their collaboration. He refrained from delving into the particulars of the contract delay.

When probed about the rumored 6 million euro salary demand, Komatsu was quick to dismiss the notion. 'I have no idea where that came from,' he remarked, expressing frustration at the persistence of baseless stories. He likened the situation to previous unfounded reports, such as an alleged argument with Esteban Ocon in Miami, emphasizing the lack of truth in such stories.

Komatsu expressed bewilderment at how such rumors gain traction, criticizing those who spread misinformation for clicks and likes. 'It's amazing these days that people don't check the source,' he lamented. 'Before you know it, there are 20 people running the story and they think it's the truth. It's absolute nonsense.'

Should Bearman remain with Haas, the team will field two Ferrari junior drivers next season, with Rafael Camara set to replace Esteban Ocon. Komatsu also addressed comparisons between Haas's relationship with Ferrari and the partnership between Red Bull and Racing Bulls. He clarified that Haas operates independently from Ferrari, unlike the tightly integrated Red Bull-Racing Bulls setup.

Highlighting the benefits of their collaboration with Ferrari, Komatsu noted that Bearman's opportunity in FP1 was a result of this relationship. He assured that Ferrari hadn't pressured Haas into selecting Bearman or Camara as drivers.

Komatsu concluded by praising Camara's performance, noting that the Brazilian's impressive speed and talent in junior series made him an attractive choice for the team. 'We tested Rafa in a TPC, he was very, very fast. So, we chose him,' Komatsu explained. This collaboration with Ferrari, he noted, provides valuable access to promising young drivers.
