Liam Lawson's standout performance in Austin has impressed Racing Bulls' team principal, Alan Permane. Yet, uncertainty hangs over the team's driver lineup for the 2027 season.
Liam Lawson's future with Racing Bulls remains uncertain, but his performance at the United States Grand Prix certainly caught the eye of team principal Alan Permane. Lawson delivered what Permane called a "perfect weekend," finishing as the best driver outside Formula 1’s top four teams and extending his lead over Pierre Gasly in the Drivers’ Championship.
Racing Bulls is the last team to confirm its driver lineup for the 2027 season. While Lawson and Arvid Lindblad could retain their spots, Red Bull junior Tsolov is reportedly in the mix for a promotion. Rumors suggest Lawson might be the one to make way, despite leading Racing Bulls to fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship with 63 of his 77 points scored this season.
In Austin, Lawson continued his streak of top-ten finishes, much to Permane's delight. Permane even joked that Lawson should perform another concert in Mexico, given his relaxed demeanor during the weekend. "You want to do a gig on Thursday in Mexico as well?" Permane quipped over the radio, to which Lawson responded with laughter, "Yeah, I felt so relaxed all weekend, honestly."
Lawson's race engineer, Alexandre Iliopoulos, also praised the 24-year-old's drive, noting it was a "bit of a boring one, but we like boring ones." Lawson was quick to highlight the car's speed despite a touch of understeer at the start.
Even with his commendable performance, the decision on Lawson's future with Racing Bulls is still pending. When asked about the timing of the team's decision, Lawson admitted he had no idea, adding, "Honestly at the moment, it’s to a point where I’m not even really thinking about it. I’m just pressing on and enjoying the races, honestly."
